Production Blog: Music

  Today my group was on the mission to find music to go with our film. Last time we filmed the first scene of our film so we have an idea of the type of music we want to use. I thought our film would go best with some background music that sounded mysterious to help express the idea of the movie. There are two different routes to obtaining the music for our film. One way is just using Royalty Free Music from YouTube. This is the easier and more simple way to go as we wouldn't need to ask for the rights of the music. The other way is if we aren't using Royalty Free Music, we would have to ask the licensing organization of the song for the permission to use it in our film. In this case,  we found a song we wanted to use in our film and we emailed the licensing organization asking for permission to use the song and explaining that our purpose for using the song was for a school filming project. Just in case the licensing organization does not respond nor give us permission to use the song, we long through some royalty free music and found a couple songs we could use as a backup plan. I think this was a good approach to this situation because the worst case scenario is that we use the royalty free music and the best case scenario is that we use the licensed music we found. Overall, I think we did a good job working to find the music that can fit our film best and fulfil its potential. Hopefully the licensing organization responds.

Production Blog: Editing

  Now that our filming was finished, it is time to start the editing portion of the project. I was tasked with assisting in the editing of the project. I got the right editing software that i wanted to use and i was ready to go. The first thing that was done was all the clips we wanted to use were put all together in the correct order. Before putting these clips in we discussed which ones we wanted to use as a group. Then, after that, the real editing started. One of the things that was done was editing of the transitions. Certain different transitions were implemented like jump cuts to transition from one clip to another efficiently. Transitions may look small and subtle, but they play a big role in projecting certain moods to a audience. They also are important because they transition between scenes which is a challenging thing to do. I believe i utilized them correctly as well. Final Production Blog

Finally, our project is done. After about 2 months of hard work, we have finished. First we did lots of research about several different things involving our film. We researched genres, conventions, title sequences and more. Then we did all the planning. We made a storyboard, script, and even our own safety protocols. After that, we got to filming. After a cancelled filming day and 2 days of filming we had all the clips we needed to put together the first 2 minutes of a movie. Then came the editing and review process. After looking over our film a countless number of times and even having other people review it, we made adjustments we thought would improve the quality of our film. And just like that, here we are. It's really fascinating seeing how much dedication and time you have to put in just to make a 2 minute short film. Now I wonder how much dedication goes into a blockbuster movie. Overall, I really learned a lot and I can't wait to show off our film!

Pitch

  Be grateful Me and my group came up with three pitches for short film concepts. Here they are.     1) A ex-homeless man steals from major NASDAQ level companies and gives his stolen riches back to the homeless.   2) A trio of reckless teenagers devise and attempt to execute a plan to pull off the ultimate bank heist. 3) A man is so obsessed with a celebrity he will do whatever it takes to "trade lives".   My group decided to go with pitch number two. We picked pitch number two because we felt like it would be the most fun to make. The movie "Going In Style" is an inspiration for this concept. In that movie a group of old men rob a bank and it is a very fun watch. This concept with a teenage cast has never been done before in film and bank robbery films are always fun to watch.
